1. Can I get a refund if I cancel?
Answer: Only if it is before May1. On and after May 1, cancellations will be given as credit IF the spot is able to be filled.
2. What should I send with my camper daily?
Answer: A labeled water bottle, a packed lunch (recommend with ice packs if you want it to be cold) and a backpack with a suit, towel and sunscreen (when the weather is hot, we break out the sprinklers and water games).
3. What if the weather looks bad?
Answer: If the weather shows extended thunderstorms or extreme heat for an extended period of time, we will move the campers to a local school. This move will be posted on the DDC 2023 Facebook Group page, on the Valpo Parks homepage (www.valpoparks.org) and sent to the primary email on camper's account via CampDoc.
4. What is CampDoc?
Answer: This is our new software for ALL paperwork that is required for campers to begin. We plan to launch it in February. If you need to add a pick up person, please do it online through Camp Doc.
5. What does a typical day look like?
Answer: It begins with free time, followed by group time, lunch, additional free time and group time. Free time is where all ages interact and Group time is when they are divided by their Fall 2023 grades. Check out the calendar below for field trip and all camp activities scheduled.
6. How does drop off/pick up work?
Answer: Cars line up by the DDC shelter until drop off begins at 9am Please make sure your child is checked in before leaving. (Before care drop offs at basketball court). For pick up, IDs are requested to check against each camper's pick up list before releasing the camper. Counselors assist campers getting in and out of cars to make the process efficient.
7. What if my camper will be absent?
Answer: No notification or phone call is needed. Campers that don't arrive by 9am are assumed to be at home.
8. What if I can't pick up my camper by 5pm?
Answer: You can add additional pick up people at any time on Camp Doc. We understand emergencies happen and if that is the case please call the camp.
9. What was behind the idea of the creation of the Counselor in Training program?
After spending time with the Ranger group last summer, it was apparent how much these campers knew about DDC traditions and had great ideas on ways to make camp programming better. The idea developed to continue to have them participate in the core camp activities but also set aside time for them to just be with their age group and do things that are fun, such as boating and eGaming.
The 2023 Counselor in Training Leadership Program is being designed based on these ideas. Our goal is to provide a platform for new ideas stemming from our older campers and the opportunity to promote leadership in a safe, supported setting.
Our hope is that as these campers bond with one another and learn leadership skills, their confidence will build, allowing them to try their hand at leading activities under the supervision of our camp counselors and directors. As we build this program from the ground up, we want to create a more engaging experience for the older campers.
10. What if my question is still not answered here?
